      <image:title>Erin - Erin Noble</image:title>
<image:caption>I am a proud Seattle native who has also been fortunate to live around the world! In 2013 I found myself back in Seattle working in senior living at the suggestion of a friend and mentor, but once I was there, it felt like my whole life had led me to that work- always being the only kid at a table of older adults; preferring oldies to popular music; publishing a story about the death of an elder in the panda community (yes, panda bears) at the age of ten; I could go on. If you know me, you know I adore my residents and my work. And, while rewarding, working with people living with dementia is also the most challenging thing I’ve ever done. Seeing families fall apart over their loved one’s dementia, care givers desperately wanting to help but failing, my own building frustration; I needed some support if I was going to make the difference I wanted in this field. I started learning everything I could about the innerworkings of dementia; like with anything, knowledge is power. When I found myself watching dementia training videos on YouTube in bed at night instead of Netflix, I knew I should probably consider making a career out of this. Now, as a Positive Approach to Care® Certified Independent Trainer, I draw from my six years of experience working in assisted living and memory care to help families and care partners understand how it feels to be living with dementia and care from a place of compassion. Because dementia changes everything over time, family members and care partners need to change too in order to be helpful, supportive, and effective. With foundational awareness of dementia, hands-on skill techniques, and coaching to create meaningful lives for your loved one, together we CAN live well with dementia. In the words of my role model and mentor, dementia educator extraordinaire Teepa Snow, until there’s a cure for dementia, there’s a positive approach to care. I am certified to implement the teachings and trainings about dementia of Teepa Snow and the Positive Approach to Care® (PAC). While based on the educational content from Teepa, and inspired by my Certification, views or opinions expressed, and additional content offered here, are representative of me, independent of the PAC organization.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and has had a passion for music for as long as I can remember. From an early age, I found that connection with people with disabilities was made easier through the sharing of music; like when I would dance to disco songs with my cousin who is on the autism spectrum after school, or when I used music to reconnect with my father following his coma and traumatic brain injury. I've found that no matter what obstacles laid in the way of connection and communication music always has the power to breakthrough. When I attended Berklee College of Music in Boston it was no surprise that I found a passion for the work of music therapy. I became board-certified when I moved back home in 2013 and started my own private practice in music therapy. Ever since earning my board-certification credentials I've been in love with the work of music therapy in memory care and hospice. Music in this setting has the power to "awaken" clients and allow them to reminisce, speak and sing with ease, and share precious moments with their loved ones. I am thrilled to be a part of the CAN team whose mission and values are the same ones that have guided my work for my entire professional career.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I am an art therapist and mental health counselor based in Seattle, WA originally from Southern California. Before moving to the PNW in 2017, I spent eight years living in New York City. While completing my master’s degree at NYU, I worked in the geriatric, psychiatric unit at Mount Sinai hospital. That is where my passion for working with older adults began and I have been deepening my expertise ever since. When I moved to Seattle, I worked as an art therapist at a community for older adults with dementia. I became the director of their Life Enrichment program and was able to create an emotional, social, and cognitive support system for the residents. Through this work, I became an advocate for improving geriatric mental healthcare and de-stigmatizing therapy. While working in a memory care community, I witnessed the increasing need for familial support in the dementia community. Family members and loved ones of those with dementia often carry a heavy burden – financial responsibilities, caretaking, decision making, and their own grief. I decided to start my own company so that I can provide supportive therapeutic services to a wider scope of the dementia community and connect people with the resources they need to thrive. I provide individual counseling, support groups, and group art therapy to individuals with dementia and those who love them. The evidence-based research behind how the brain responds positively to creativity is robust. By integrating that research into my work, I am able to provide emotional support as well as cognitive therapy to those whose brains work differently than they used to. Together, we can take the stigma out of dementia and ensure those who need support have the access they need. I am so thrilled to be a part of The Collective and to be able to work with women who share my passion for creating a world where those with dementia and their loved ones can thrive!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Rosie - MEET ROSIE</image:title>
<image:caption>Rosie was adopted by our Music Therapist, Kaylee in the summer of 2020 after a life of being used for breeding and spending much of her time in a kennel. While we don’t know much about the first 2 ½ years of her life we can say that she developed a good sense of trustworthy and not-so-trustworthy people. But you would never know about any of the mistreatment she survived if not for the physical signs that were left behind; she is sweet, mellow, and she loves babies of any species. She loves to visit people who have been isolated by this pandemic and let them scratch her bountiful wrinkles and give her treats for sitting like a good girl. When she’s not spreading joy to others you can find her napping by the fire or cuddling her hedgehog toy. So often, people make snap judgements based on appearances and as a blue pit Rosie knows all about that. Luckily, dogs look beyond the superficial and see the inner-core that is within all of us. She brings that innate ability into any therapeutic meeting and has an uncanny ability to melt the hearts of anyone who looks into her puppy dog eyes long enough. ROSEMARY HONORS A SPECIAL LEGACY When she was adopted her name was “Honor,” and while her work as a therapy dog is certainly honorable, Kaylee was inspired to choose a new name for her. The inspiration came from a client with dementia who Kaylee had worked with back in 2014 named Rosemary. She was a kind, warm soul who had a soft spot for anyone who was looking forlorn. She was loving and had deep, soulful eyes that looked straight through you. This dog matched Rosemary not only in personality but in her lovable wrinkles and jowls too! While these two Rosemary’s will never have the chance to meet, her name, spirit, and legacy will continue to be carried on. Rosie completed her therapy certification in spring of 2021 and she’s so happy to be a part of The Collective team!</image:caption>
